The indispensable approach for unclogging your sewers

A blocked drain is not a joke and every home owner has been a victim of one at some time. A choked drain in a sink, toilet, shower or bathtub can quickly cause waste water to accumulate. At this point, the offending blockage must be removed through all that built up water and chances are that the homeowner will not be able to clear it using household remedies or drain products. At this point of time you might think of taking a professional help but this can cost you a lot. As the severity of the blockage increases, the costs also rise. When most of your drains get choked up all the time, thoughts of preventive drain inspection will cross your mind.

What are the reasons for occurrence of clogged drains ?.

The primary cause of blocked drains is a lack of care. If you fail to use the drain-strainer to prevent food matter and refuse passing into the pipes from the drain, clogging of the kitchen sink’s drainpipe can occur. These food scraps buildup inside the pipework, causing blockage. Accumulation of cooking grease or oil in the drain pipes can make the situation even worse. Too much toilet paper flushed down the toilet invariably causes drain blockage.

In order to avoid clogging of toilet drains items that are not meant for toilets should not be flushed into it. A blockage can be caused instantly or over a period of time by objects like sanitary products, baby-wipes and paper towels. Hairs that are trapped in the drain pipes can result in clogging of bathroom sinks, showers and bath tubs. The problem can be made worse by material such as soap, shampoo and hair gel because these also produce build-up, adding to the blockage.

However clogging is not always due to things that you put down into the drains. Scale, tree roots, deterioration of pipes that are rusted and crushed drain lines have also been known to cause plumbing problems.

In case of a clogged drain, here are few things that you can do.

Drains can be cleared of blockages by using specially formulated acids and other chemical products. Use of these products can, in truth, result in damage to your plumbing; it can also impact your personal health and the environment. Luckily, there are also natural methods of clearing drain blockages. Running boiling water through the drains regularly is one natural method available. You could also use vinegar and baking soda. Simply pour vinegar into the clogged drain, and then sprinkle it liberally with baking soda. Before pouring the boiling water over the mixture let it sit in the drain for about 15 minutes to clear the blockage.

Proper examination and prevention is better than facing a blocked drain.

The plumbing system works in the same manner as your car or any other machine. The system requires regular inspection and maintenance. You can take the initiative and inspect the drains yourself as you are most familiar with the way your drains work. To avoid the situation of an extremely clogged drain you should get your whole drainage system inspected by a professional drains contractor on a regular basis. It is advisable to have a plumber “snake” all of your drainpipes at least roughly once a year, as a means of preventing blockages. However you can get them snaked more frequently too in case your drains are prone to getting clogged. Regular video inspections can be carried out for important drain connections.

Regular inspection of the drains is important as the blockage can cost you a lot and not too forget it can be quite irritating too.
