My dishwasher isn’t draining all the way. Can you use a drain product for a dishwasher?

I checked the bottom of the drain and pulled out a few little things but there’s still water in the drain filler.

The filter itself might be clogged. I would not recommend drain cleaner because of the strength of the chemicals used. Check the hose running from the dishwasher to the sink then pull the filter in the dishwasher to clear any additional debris out. If your still having issues then check the dishwashers owners manuel if you still have it. Last resort would be to call a plumber.

Yes, check the hose. Ours has backed up a few times and every time it was the hose that was clogged.

Dishwashers will never drain all the water. It designed that to keep sewer gases from entering through the drain hose. But id it is leaving more that a cup full, there are check valves on the discharge line of the dishwasher. You have to pull the machine out to get to the bottom of the pump, to get at the check valve.

There should always be a little water left in the drain to the dishwasher. It protects the rubber drain boot from rotting.

No. Empty one envelope of Kool Aid and run it through the entire cycle. How old is the unit? Check on life expectancy. It may be time to replace it.
