Baking soda and vinegar can get rid of a drains smell.
eep. you might want to get down under the sink and take the pipes out and clean them. Or hire a plumber.
Try Tray’s idea first tho, it’s a good one
drain snake
Couple of methods I’ve used.
i use a cup of baking soda leave it for min 1/2 hour then chase it down with a kettle of boiling water. I’ve pored a cup or so of laundry detergent down the drain let it sit for a while and chased that down with boiling water. The use your nose – no drains smell.
COPIOUS amounts of water (cold – hot water will make it more aromatic as it’s being rinsed) and baking soda. I’d let the baking soda sit at least overnight (longer, if possible) before flushing the drain with water.
What Tray said. Baking soda and vinegar.
I use bleach or vinegar and it works or me.
You don’t mention if you have a garbage disposal or not. If you do, put any kind of citrus peels down it and grind away, orange, lemon, lime, all will make it smell great. Baking soda is another great odor eliminator. If none of this works, you may have a more serious problem, you may have a leak somewhere that is allowing gases to back up into the house and may have nothing at all to do with the sink drain. If you have a septic system this can easily happen. also if you have a roof vent it could be clogged.
It may not be that your sink itself is stinky, it could be that your septic system is venting back out. Does your sink have a p trap? its a curled peice of pipe connecting your plumbing to the drain. If this is missing then you deffinatly found your problem. If this is not it, it may help to pour javex as it kills bacteria. Try using a brush and cleaning your drain up untilthe p trap.
Good Luck
baking soda and vinegar, let it sit without using water through the sink for good couple of hours, if that fails get hubby/bf? to unscrew the pipes under the sink and see if theres anything sitting in there, if not a good clean of the pipes and a soak in disenfectant cant do any harm, and if that fails?.. well a plumber maybe perhaps he could check that everything is flowing alright and flush someting through the house water works. Good luck
baking soda , vinegar , I usually pour a bit of pure bleach down the drains when I’m done cleaning the sink or any drainage that is around the house .
I use Lemon in my ice tea and put the left over portion down the disposal every night. The citric acid seems to keep any odors away as well as keeping the gunk from building up in the drain.
If vinegar and baking soda doesn’t work try pouring bleach into the drain, let stand for a few minutes then flush with hot water.
If this still does not solve problem remove trap on sink drain and clean also check the vent pipe coming out of roof for obstructions.
most of the people here say the same thing. here’s my take.
i agree with Don B. it’s possible that a soft stoppage is occurring in your pipes. i recommend snaking the pipe with lots of water running to disturb the debris and rinse it through.
once the pipes are reamed of debris, the smell will naturally be gone.
