How do I drain the water from my house in the winter?
I need to drain the water so the pipes don’t freeze while I’m away over the winter. Never done this before. What will the stop tap look like if it’s within my boundaries and if it’s a shared water meter, how do I find it and what does it look like?
Cheers.
Not an easy task. Water has to be removed from traps, faucets, shower valves, water heaters, maybe even the water meter. Water in boilers must be drained or a special antifreeze added. If on a sewer system antifreeze must be added to traps to keep gases from entering the home.
Hire a pro….good luck
Most likely it will be marked on the curb with the letter W. and if you are on a shared water meter you should have a shut off to your section of residence. And remember to drain the whole house and install plumbers anti-freeze into the traps.
good luck
