What are some easy home solutions for eliminating obstructed drainage in your bathroom? The quickest and easiest thing to use to address the problem is your regular plunger. The whole process of unclogging a blocked drain is pretty simple and straightforward. But the last thing you want to do is be too aggressive and pulse to quickly. To achieve the desired effect, the drain should be totally covered with the head of the plunger and then the bell-shaped rubber must be pressed down slowly; next the handle should be pulled up fast and with good enough force to produce an effective suction. So any material that is stuck into the bathroom, sink or tub drainage should come out with the upward pull on the waste pipes plunger. overflow outlets are present in few sinks and tubs, so the outlets should be covered with a wet towel or sponger before using the plunger otherwise air can enter and reduce the impact of your actions.
Chemical unblocking agents can also be used to dislodge or dissolve plugged matter. These products should be used only when the plunger has failed to clean out your bathroom drain pipe. Leave the chemical for a few minutes so that it loosens the blockage, and then use hot water to rinse out the drain pipe, taking care not to splash yourself. Just to be careful, you must put on clothes that you wouldn’t care about if they get spoiled by dirt or harmful chemicals. After chemical flushing, you may try the plunger again – this can cause the chemical/water mix to splash back on you – eye guards are highly advisable here. To avoid unwarranted problems from creeping up, follow the manufacturers instructions ardently.
If the plunger still doesn’t make any difference after the chemical treatment you could use pliers or a pipe wrench to loosen the P-trap nuts. Removing the drain pipe trap can release a sudden rush of waste water, so keep a mop and pail handy, put a bucket underneath the p-trap before you disconnect it. If you don’t want to damage the chrome finish of your pipes and also to get a better grip on the pipe, you can wrap the jaws of your wrench with electrical tape. You will be able to check the drains pipes P-trap for any obstructions in the pipe opening after you remove it. If, however you cannot find any solid materials the problem is probably harder to get to, between the trap and the soil stack deep in the drainage pipework.
A toilet auger can be used for unclogging the toilet. With a bathtub or sink, however a drainage snake should be used. The instrument is designed in a way that it can travel deep down into your pipes. By twisting the adjustable handle to drill into the blockage, you then pull the obstruction up and out of your drain pipe. Once, you have taken out the obstruction, re-fix the P-trap and rinse the drainpipe with hot water to make sure that the entire clog has been removed. Make sure that everything is tight and sealed properly and test the P-trap for leaks.
If all the above enlisted methods fail to unclog your bathroom drain, then you should call a professional drainage contractor. Professional plumbers can identify and solve serious issues like aged pipes caving in, tree root invasion, blocked sewer line or soil stack; these should not be attempted by the homeowner as you will not have the right tools to solve the problem.
